[20 September 2002] MARC FERRARI SIGNED TO Z |
Z Records announceS the signing of Ex Keel, Cold Sweat and Medicine Wheel Axeman Marc Ferrari to an exclusive world-wide deal. Marc's new album "Lights Camera Action !" will be released during early 2003 and features Paul Taylor, Keith St John , Steve Plunkett and many more. Fans of Marc's earlier work with Cold Sweat and Keel will not be disappointed. Marc's career has earnt him the respect of many within the industry. MARC FERRARI A HISTORY: Fast...Sleek...Dynamic...Inspiring...these are just a few words that have often been used to describe the world famous Ferrari automobile. Similar plaudits have also been used to describe ace guitarist/producer/songwriter/artist Marc Ferrari...and as his namesake implies, this Ferrari is in a class all his own. As a member of Goldmountain/MCA recording artists “Keel” and “Cold Sweat”, Marc has established himself as one of rock’s brightest rising stars...and earning the respect and admiration of his peers. Marc was born in New Rochelle, NY and relocated Upstate where he stayed through graduation. It was here that he first cut his teeth on the bar circuit of Western New York. Though under-aged at the time, this couldn’t prevent him from pursuing his life-long passion of performing. At age 19, already a veteran of the club wars, he moved to greener and more lucrative pastures...Boston. He quickly earned a reputation as a dynamic performer/writer and worked studio sessions with various artists including former Rolling Stones producer Jimmy Miller. Unsatisfied with his musical urges while recording/performing in the New England area, he sensed something was missing...his calling was elsewhere.
In January 1984 Marc took a plane to Los Angeles never to look back...for it was here that his destiny was waiting. A chance meeting with long-time friend and correspondent Mike Varney (Shrapnel Records and all-around metal guru) changed his life forever. Mike told Marc that Ron Keel was starting his own project and was looking for hungry, hard-working people to share his vision. Marc called Ron the same day and the partnership was formed. Almost immediately the band was selling out all over Los Angeles...first the Roxy and then the Troubadour, and then larger venues such as the Country Club. These shows brought the band to the attention of Goldmountain Records and future producer Gene Simmons of KISS. While awaiting a decision from the major labels, the band decided to waste no time and went into the studio to record their first LP for Mike Varney’s label. Recorded in just eight days, “Lay Down The Law” has become a cult classic among rock aficionados, and to this day is still selling strong. In August 1984, the band signed to Goldmountain records, and entered world famous Record Plant Studios with Gene Simmons to record their epic “The Right To Rock” LP. This album, a virtual audial avalanche, sky-rocketed the band to instant acclaim upon its release in January 1985. Anti-censorship groups quickly aligned themselves with the title track and its message...and the song became a battle-cry of thousands across the country. The band toured all year long in support of the LP, teaming up with such groups as Loudness, Accept, and Helix. The barnstorming paid off handsomely, and the group was voted “Best New Band” in not one, not two, but THREE of the nation’s biggest rock magazines (Circus, Metal Edge, and Rock Scene), beating out such luminaries as Bon Jovi, Dokken and Metallica in the process. Capping off a brilliant year, the boys went back into the studio once again with Gene Simmons to record their 3rd LP...“The Final Frontier.” Just days before its release in early spring 1986, the space shuttle Challenger tragedy shook the world, and the band paid its tribute to the fallen heroes by dedicating the album to them. Putting the tragedy behind them, the band took the world by storm. They toured Europe for the first time as special guests of Dio. They criss-crossed America with Krokus, Quiet Riot and Queensryche. They were invited to play at the annual Texas Jam with Van Halen for 81,000 people. They did stadium dates with Aerosmith, and to top it off, a whirlwind tour of Japan, where the band received the biggest welcome one could hope for...complete with Beatlemania-type scenes at the airport and hotels. They returned to the studio in December...this time with Michael Wagener (Dokken, Great White, Accept, Alice Cooper) at the helm. Upon completion of the album, Marc took on some other projects to keep busy. He produced two tracks for up and coming Texas rockers “Pantera”...and through his involvement, helped them to land a major label deal. He took on a project from a Japanese advertising agency who had heard of his songwriting prowess and produced/recorded 12 songs for international use. He wrote 3 songs with ex-KISS skinbasher Peter Criss. He designed his own guitar which Peavey Corp. manufactured for him, and Peavey went as far as to purchase the rights to some of his design modifications. He was clearly starting to expand his horizons, and welcome all new challenges in front of him. The 4th LP, self-titled “Keel,” was released in May 1987. That summer, the boys landed the gig of the decade...the last leg of the Bon Jovi “Slippery When Wet” tour. How did they get that prestigious slot over countless other bands? A little luck and a lot of initiative made it happen. Marc himself explains...”I had known Jon (Bon Jovi) for a couple of years. He had always been real cordial to me whenever we met, so I kept in touch with him whenever he was in town. I ran into him at a club in L.A., just after the release of our “Keel” LP. We had a couple of drinks, and the next day I played him some of the tracks off the album. One thing led to another, and before I knew it, we were asked to open up the last leg of his tour. It all comes down to establishing a good rapport among your peers and associates. I like to build bridges, not burn them.” Following the ultra-successful Bon Jovi tour, the band returned to the clubs, grinding their way across the country for most of the summer and culminating with a Christmas show at their old stomping grounds, the Country Club in Los Angeles, a well deserved “welcome home” for the local heroes. 1988...a new year...and a new chapter in the life of Marc Ferrari. Sensing the need to accept more responsibility for the decisions which would shape his life, and bowing to visionary differences with others in the band, Marc felt it necessary to step aside in order to pursue his own vision and dreams. A gutsy decision for any established artist to make, but at the same time opened up a whole new future with limitless options and possibilities. “The decision to leave the band was the single most difficult one I’ve ever had to make, but I know in my heart I did the right thing. It was time for me to take the bull by the horns, so to speak, and become more actively involved with the over-all picture. It was like I just went to Rock ‘n’ Roll college for 4 years, and got my diploma. It was time to go into business for myself. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.” Following his departure from Keel in 1988, Marc diversified his interests in the music business. He started a new band which would eventually be signed to MCA called “Cold Sweat.” The highly-praised, but sadly overlooked debut album from Cold Sweat, entitled “Break Out” was released on MCA Records in June 1990. The band went on to support Dio and Love/Hate on their U.S. tour, as well as being invited as special guests to “Whitesnake” on the “Monsters of Rock” festival in Mannheim, Germany, in September 1990. After a solid year on the road, the band returned to Los Angeles, only to find that their A&R rep at MCA had been fired. Due to lack of label support, the group disbanded in 1991. Marc concentrated on writing, producing, and music publishing. He co-wrote a song entitled “5-Card Stud” with former KISS guitarist Ace Frehley, which appeared on Ace’s album “Trouble Walking”. He also write a song with ex-“Loudness” vocalist Minuro Niihara which appeared on his latest album in Japan. Marc began doing clinics for St. Louis Music, representing Alvarez Electric guitars and the fine line of Crate Amplifiers as well, quickly becoming one of the most proficient and respected clinicians in the country. In Summer 1991, Marc was asked to be the guitarist in the now #1 smash movie “Wayne’s World.” Having worked with director Penelope Spheeris in a video for “Keel,” Marc had developed a relationship which resulted in his first major motion picture appearance. “Wayne’s World” went on to become one of the most popular movies of its generation, and Marc was asked back to reprise his role of Tia Carrere’s guitarist in the smash sequel, “Wayne’s World 2.” He has since appeared in the hit TV shows “Murder She Wrote” and “Step By Step” as well. In 1992 he formed MasterSource, has become one of the most successful independent music publishing companies in the USA, licensing over 350 songs to film and television in under 5 years. He has placed songs in many major motion pictures, including Steven Segal’s “Under Siege 2,” Disney’s “Man Of The House,” “Fatherhood,” “Life with Mikey,” “Money For Nothing,” “Blank Check,” and “Mighty Ducks 2,” as well as hit TV shows “ER,” “Lois and Clark,” “Sisters,” “X-Files,” “Guiding Light,” “General Hospital,” and “Mad About You,” among others. 1992 also saw the formulation of his current band, “Medicine Wheel,” which went on to release its debut album entitled “First Things First” via the Dream Circle label in Europe and Alfa/Brunette in Japan. The band played in Japan in November, 1994 and has since recorded its sophomore effort “Immoral Fabric” and its third release “Small Talk”, released in 1999.1995 saw the release of Marc’s first ever solo effort, entitled “Marc Ferrari & Friends: Guest List.” This exciting release features many of Marc’s friends from the rock community, and showcases his diverse writing and playing talents. It is an album which has been a long time in the making, and certainly one that bas been eagerly awaited. Including performances from MSG’s Robin McAuley, Autograph’s Steve Plunkett, Medicine Wheel’s Michael Mulholland, Blackthorne’s Bob Kulick, and Black n’ Blue’s Tommy Thayer, “Guest List” is a first-rate collection of first-rate talent, and another page in the ever-expanding book of Marc Ferrari’s illustrious career. In 1996, the Summer Olympics came calling, and Marc responded by writing 2 theme songs that were used in for video productions, “Capture The Dream”, and “Chance Of A Lifetime”. In addition, 9 other songs from his catalog were used in various athlete profiles and special segments. Later that year, he was presented with a special achievement award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for his contributions to the 1996 Emmy-award winning daytime soap opera “Guiding Light.”
Few musicians have been able to accomplish the broad achievements that Marc Ferrari has done in such a short time. As new challenges are presented and conquered, one thing is certain....Marc Ferrari is just getting started!!!! 2002 and Marc is set to return after a short break with his new album "Lights, Camera, Action!". The album will be released World-Wide by English label Z Records and is set for release during early 2003, fans of Keel and Cold Sweat will not be disappointed ! |

[17 September 2002] MILLION "The First Two Million" |
In 2002, Million certainly made their mark in the Rock Music scene. Their album, ‘Detonator’ scored highly with critics and fans alike, and they headlined the first night of the Sweden Rock Festival. Powerplay magazine said of their performance "if you haven't heard of them yet, if you haven't got hold of their brilliant new album 'Detonator', then you're missing one of the best hard rock bands for a long while. And they're even better live. " They scored the performance at 9/10, the only other acts to get similar treatment were Magnum and Bruce Dickinson ... High praise in deed! But ‘Detonator’ is not the first album from the band. They first hit the streets back in 1988, and have released 3 albums prior to the deal with UK based A2 Records, as well as multiple tours including the famous run as support to Magnum on their farewell tour. Fans got a taste of the earlier material on the compilation album, ‘Get Millionized!’ released in 2001 to mark their new record deal. The previous albums have been long deleted, mostly due to the fact that none of the previous record labels that Million were signed to now exist. In fact their first album, "No. 1" has reputedly changing hands for large sums on e-bay! That is a situation that has now changed. ‘The First Two Million’ is just that, the first two albums, ‘No.1’ & ‘We, Ourselves & Us’, released as a double CD, at the special single CD price. A2 Records release the album on October 14th. The Million story does not of course end here. In addition to the release of ‘The First Two Million’, Million will be embarking on a European tour that will start at the end of 2002,and continue into 2003. ‘Detonator’ will see a release in the USA, and a tour will undoubtedly follow. A single is being taken from ‘Detonator’ and will be released in October 2002. "Shadow Of The Cross" is a warning tale about the hypocrisy of religion, and the video was directed by Harrison Funk, whose previous credits include Michael Jackson (Liberian Girl & Smooth Criminal) and Cameo (Word Up). It is being edited in Hollywood by the editor of Apocalypse Now and the Godfather trilogy! In the words of Powerplay ..."Buy the album and if they play within a 100 miles of your home, don't miss it . " For more information, please contact Rupert Withers at Assassination Music Promotions on 01494 862770 or email < a href="mailto:rupert@assassination.co.uk">rupert@assassination.co.uk |

[17 September 2002] TONY MILLS OF SHY TALKS Z ROCK GERMANY |
Tony speaks: I am not really overly concerned over the changes that have happened over the last few months, to be honest. We have played some acoustic shows and we are fairly well acclimatised to the change from keyboard to second guitarist. The influx of new members has brought with it more talent in vocals etc., than we had hoped for and the band are now in rehearsal for the show. It may be that we will play a show as a warm up before we go to Germany under an assumed name or just some low key place somewhere in the Midlands of the UK to be honest. It has been twelve years since I played a full show with Shy, let alone with different members and songs. I am very excited about playing Germany again, it is a place where the band received great acclaim in the '80's and judging by the response to the new album, the reception for the band will not be dissimilar. As regards the set for the Z show, we intend to mix full live with unplugged and I think several songs from the new album will interact with a lot of material from Excess All Areas. I think the response to the new album has been reassuring , in as much as a reformation of a band can be, I fully intend to spend a lot of time with the new line-up of Shy and we now plan to take up as many opportunities of playing live as we can in Europe and abroad as well as preparing for a new recording schedule. |

Upwards of 7,000 people flocked to see Rik on stage with Kim Mitchell at the Mattawa Days Music Festival. Festival promoter Jaques Begin said this about the performance, “Rik Emmett memorized the crowd with a sensational performance. A crowd favourite, the reason he is one of the top ten guitarists in the world. Rik shows rank as one of the top 5 in Mattawa history!” 15,000 music fans attended Rik’s recent performance at the Fall River Festival in Rhode Island. His performance was an overwhelming success and prompted Festival President, Peter Kortright to send this message. “Rik Emmett was a smash hit as our Saturday night headliner Fall River Celebrates America 2002. Given the size and enthusiasm of the appreciative crowd, it is clear that he has a much larger following than I expected." For more concert highlights check out www.rikemmett.com. [10 September 2002] JOHN TAGLIERI'S CHARITY SONG |
Maximum Velocity Records, along with Leap Dog Music and Ego Trip Entertainment, is proud to announce that John Taglieri will be performing his newest single, "Angels Among Us" on 9/11 in Harrison, NJ. The township is dedicating a monument on that day that has been built in honor of those lost in the 9/11 tragedies. The monument has actual pieces of the Twin Towers in it. After hearing John perform the song at another event, they immediately inquired and hired him to perform it at their dedication ceremony. The song will also be used that night to raise money for charities to be designated by the Harrison Council. The ceremony will be in Roosevelt Park in Harrison, NJ and will be broadcast on Channel 34 locally. The song is a powerful, haunting ballad about the events of September 11th and the ensuing war. It has stirred the hearts of all that have heard it, frequently quieting entire rooms at Taglieri's live shows. Speaking from his heart and singing from his soul, Taglieri delivers the song with such emotion that one cannot help but feel the desperation and sincere sympathy that he conveys to his listeners. Other organizations have also taken notice of the song and Taglieri. On 9/7, Taglieri will be performing the song in Jersey City for the Governors of NY & NJ, several Mayors and Rudy Guliani, as well as dignitaries from every organization involved in last years efforts. On 9/10, Taglieri will perform the song in Jersey City, NJ at a commemoration Ceremony to be held in Exchange Place. On 9/13 & 9/14, The Newark Bears and Riverfront Stadium in Newark, NJ, are working with Taglieri and his label where Taglieri will be performing the National Anthem prior to the game, and will perform "Angels Among Us" during the 7th inning stretch on the 13th and prior to a fireworks celebration on the 14th. The stadium will also be selling copies of the song both evenings with the proceeds going to a charity of their choice. John will also be performing the song live on 9/14 on 90.3 WESS Radio(East Stroudsburg, PA) and on 9/17on Channel 12 TV-NJ. Other events are being scheduled for 9/12 & 9/20. "John Taglieri is one of the finest songwriters I have met in years and it is our privilege to help release this song in memory of 9/11." said Scott Patterson, Founder of Maximum Velocity Records. "We want all to get involved and spread this great song, as it deserves to be heard. We are going to be setting up an MP3 download of the song that can be purchased with the money going into donations and we will also be setting up a fund for the donations. We are already talking to various agencies about the best way to distribute the money and feel that this is a fitting tribute to those who have fallen." "I am thrilled and honored that these various organizations have decided to use my song to raise money and do some good in remembrance of this terrible situation" said Taglieri. "It's the most emotional song I have ever written…straight from my heart and with all the sympathy and respect I could offer for those lost in this terrible event. I hope it can do some good." "John Taglieri was in the unfortunate situation of seeing the events of 9/11 happen directly in front of him and "Angels Among Us" is the result of him taking a long hard look at those who came to NYC's rescue when it was needed the most..." said Dave Tedder of Ego Trip Entertainment, Taglieri's manager. For a full schedule of appearances that John will be making to perform this song, and for other charitable avenues, please stop by the website at http://JohnTaglieri.com and contact John's management. [10 September 2002] SWEDEN ROCK RECORDS OCTOBER RELEASES |
LOCOMOTIVE BREATH – ”Heavy Machinery” (SRR-001) The band was formed in 1995 by former Overdrive-guitarist Janne Stark. The début album ”Train Of Events” was released in 1997/98 in Europe as well as Japan. On the new album ”Heavy Machinery”, a well suitable title, the band is fronted by new singer Mattias Osbäck, a man that has received great press recognition. Besides this the music has become heavier, yet without losing the melodic touch. Musical comparisons have been made with bands like King’s X and Freak Kitchen. Guests: Roland Grapow (Helloween), Mattias Eklundh (Freak Kitchen), Tommy Denander, Pontus Norgren (Humanimal, Great King Rat, solo) and Micke ”Nord” Andersson. Some press quotes: ”It is as heavy as a piece of concrete and welded together like a bridge pillar made at the Karlskrona dockyard” Hanna Nilsson – BLT ”Mattias Osbäck is a find who sings with a classic British rock voice”. Jerry Prütz – Fuzz ”Locomotive Breath combine musical competence and virtuosity” Dennis Karlsson – Sweden Rock Magazine SPEARFISH – ”Affected By Time” (SRR-002) The band stems from the Swedish wilderness and also listens to the name ”power trio”. The fact that the singer/bass-player Thomas Thulin has vocal similarities with a certain Geddy Lee from another well-known trio is not a fact they try to hide. On the other hand SPEARFISH has picked influences not only from this trio, but also from several others, including Led Zeppelin, Uriah Heep and Deep Purple, to finally mix it up in their own musical pot. A highly habit-forming one, too. Behind the drums we find none less than Mick Nordström, producer extraordinaire and former drummer of Modest Attraction, Charizma and Cornerstone. Guest: John Nitzinger TWINBALL – ”Remnants Of A Broken Soul” (SRR-003) TWINBALL started their career as a Thin Lizzy cover band. When they finally decided to fly on their own wings they kept certain parts of the history, this in the shape of a strong twin-guitar concept. Musically they have however taken the influences into the new millennium with lead heavy guitars, strong melodic choruses and an amazing groove. They have also made an outstanding cover of Chris de Burgh’s “Don’t Pay The Ferryman”. Time to write new rock history! Guests: Robin George, Dave Hlubek (Molly Hatchet/SRA) and Jay Johnson (SRA) |

[10 September 2002] DREAM THEATER NEWS |
Dream Theater and CBS's "The Early Show" In August, the information was leaked through the site of Elektra (the band's label) that Dream Theater would be performing on CBS' "The Early Show" in September 14th. However, the appearance was cancelled a few days later. Here is an explanation from the band about the cancellation. "We regret to announce that Dream Theater have been forced to cancel the appearance on the CBS Morning show. The show was only able to provide us with a performing situation that would have been "musically compromising" and one which would have given an improper representation of the band and its music. We're sorry to be disappointing any fans that were looking forward to the show, but to be honest we were hoping to not even make this possible appearance public until further information was provided to us first and unfortunately the information was prematurely leaked on Elektra's website." But on the beach, in the beautiful little town of Playa d'Aro - north of Barcelona - Spain, I had a blast with 50 other black belts from all over Europe and Africa. This autumn I will be one of the instructors in my club back home in Oslo- Oslo Karateklubb . Anyone interested in joining a beginners class can contact me @ bjorn@streetlegal.no No kidding… Besides of being back in shape, I will soon announce the new Street Legal line up. There will also be a complete redesign and update of our site www.streetlegal.no Please excuse me for not being able to maintain the site lately. But I hope everyone can understand that my health has been my main priority the last year. I was pretty close (2cm- and a broken spleen-to be exact..) to join Cliff Burton, Randy Rhoades and Cozy Powell in the great hard rock orchestra in the sky. (R.I.P) But it was my lucky day. And I am only the happiest guy in the world still being able to both sing and play bass down here on mother earth. Street Legal have a lot of strong material coming up. Expect some more killer-in your face-melodic hard rock in the vein of our 1st album "Thunderdome". I look forward to start touring with the new line-up and begin the recording of our 2nd album . Look out for a release spring 2003. We have a pleasant surprise for fans of a certain well known singer…" |

Confirmed for inclusion on the album are: “Any Day Now,” “Bind,” “Breakin’ My Heart,” “Heaven In Hand,” “Hold Me Over.” “Fear And Storm Unite,” “Next To You, “Nothing Denied,” “The One That Got Away,” “Restrained,” “Stay This Way,” and “When I’m Gone.” But it doesn’t end there. Members of the band’s e-mail list have been given a special code word that will entitle them to an exclusive limited edition CD of unreleased MADISON PAIGE material FREE with their pre-order. The reason for this, as drummer Richie Rivera explains, is simple: “One of the most annoying things about a lot bands today is this sense of entitlement which they seem to have. We can never express enough how thankful we are that so many people have embraced what we’ve been doing over this last year…but with a free CD, we can sure try!” “We’re keeping the tracklisting for the bonus CD a secret,” adds guitarist Damon Valley. “Let’s just say that if you like what we do, you’re gonna love it!” For ordering information and to sign up on the MADISON PAIGE e-mail list, visit www.madisonpaige.net. [4 September 2002] SWEDEN ROCK RECORDS |
Sweden Rock Records is a new record label with the musical concept as basically the only common factor with the magazine and festival. Soo… what is Sweden Rock music? More or less the musical territory that lies between seventies-oriented hard rock, past melodic hard rock and AOR to today’s heavy metal. Our aim is to dig out and present new and fresh, as well as old but highly interesting bands, Swedish as well as non-Swedish. Sweden Rock Records makes a flying start with three strong Swedish aces in the hole. First out is a re-release of LOCOMOTIVE BREATH’s album “Heavy Machinery”. Heavy and riff-oriented hard rock with a melodic touch and now with an extra track. As a parallel partner we present SPEARFISH and their second album “Affected By Time” for all fans of slightly Zeppelin-tainted hard rock with a modern touch. On the left wing we find a new and fresh dark horse – TWINBALL, who could be described as a young, heavy and modern distant relative of classic Thin Lizzy. All three strong and fresh proofs that Swedish hard rock is of international top-notch class. If you however think we’re satisfied with these three teasers, boy, you’re wrong! Within the next six months we have another bunch of highly interesting releases lined up for your heads! For further information, please contact: Johannes Lindström Phone: +46 (0)456-31788 |
