1. HARDLINE “Paralyzed”

The come back album from a celebrated band featuring brothers Johnny and Joey Gioeli shows a new maturity and edge for Hardline, combining powerful and immediately recognizable hooks coming from the classic hard rock tradition of Whitesnake, Kiss and Van Halen with all new elements and sounds.

2. JOHN WEST “Stand, Sentinel”

The new solo cd from the Royal Hunt and Artension singer, is a concept album based on the story of the native American spirit Shenandoah on his journey through lives and times. John gathered such musicians as Chris Caffery (Savatage), Mike Chlasciak and Bobby Jarzombek (Halford) and Kevin Chown (Artension). The song on offer is a bombastic power ballad in Kansas meet Royal Hunt style.

3. ERIC MARTIN “I’m Goin’ Sane”

In “I’m Goin’ Sane” Eric Martin, the ex Mr. Big singer, explores new sounds and gains credibility as a mature and contemporary hard rock artist. The sound is heavier and darker than ever still retaining a melodic edge and the title track shows it very well.

4. WHITE SKULL “The Dark Age”

White Skull is the heaviest band on the Frontiers roster and definitely one of the most popular bands in Italy in the Power / Heavy Metal style. Their new album is a concept based on the crimes of the Inquisition during the Middle Ages! Definitely the band’s most mature and strong effort so far.

5. JIM PETERIK WORLD STAGE with Johnny Van Zant “The Day America Cried”

This song was written by the former Survivor songwriter with the Lynyrd Skynyrd singer Johnny Van Zant right after the September 11th tragedy in New York. Haunting lyrically and powerful emotionally, this track deserves to be heard by everyone. A fitting tribute.

6. HONEYMOON SUITE “Gone”

The return of the mighty Canuck AOR band with a new sound still firmly rooted in melodic hard rock blended perfectly with a modern sound influenced by Train, Goo Goo Dolls and Vertical Horizon. “Gone” is just the perfect example of Honeymoon Suite close to their classic roots, but keeping in with the sound and production of the “Dreamland” album.

7. ANDRÉ ANDERSEN “Coming Home”

As most will know, Andre Andersen is the producer/composer/keyboardist behind Royal Hunt. His solo album features all elements that have built up the success of the neoclassic metal genre and features the superb vocals of Elegy singer Ian Parry.

8. MOLLO / MARTIN “Amore Silenzioso”

The second album coming from the mega-union between the most gifted Italian metal producer/guitarist/songwriter Dario Mollo and ex Black Sabbath screamer Tony Martin is a real gem in melodic metal style with influences ranging from Dio, to Rainbow and Blue Murder.

9. HAREM SCAREM “Weight Of The World”

The opener and title track of the monster album from the Canadian rockers Harem Scarem shows the wonderfully fresh sound and amazing inspiration of the first official independent European release.

Already a legend before its release, Mecca gathers the best talent in melodic rock nowadays and assemble an immense array of magnificent songs penned by none other than Jim Peterik of Survivor, showcasing the immense capabilities of the new AOR-Star singer Joe Vana.

11. GIANT “You Will Be Mine”

Ten years after the masterpiece "Time To Burn" the Huff brothers band came back with "III”. The grandiose sound of “You Will Be Mine” is a proof that melodic rock is not dead and that sheer quality has nothing to fear.

12. TEN “Glimmer Of Evil”

TEN's sixth studio album and marks a substantial return to the classy and melodic atmospheres of the band's most successful album, "The Name Of The Rose". “Glimmer of Evil” shows a great guitar riff, which is intense without being dominant and the chorus and vocals are both fairly subdued… superb !

13. VICIOUS MARY “Love Or Hate” (4.11)

Italy has never been the promised land for hard and melodic rock music. Still Vicious Mary is an exception to the unwritten rule! Featuring members of prog-metal heroes Eldritch and White Skull axeman Nick Savio, Vicious Mary is a bright hope for the future of melodic rock!

14. TWO FIRES “I Will Remember You” (5.00)

This song, taken from the chapter II of the ex-Storm duo alliance Ramos/Chalfant, comes straight from the AOR handbook and reminds of the best moments of the successful debut album. Lots of hooks, lots of vocal melodies and a great up tempo feel good approach!

15. REB BEACH “Ghost” (4.15)

The ex-guitar wizard for Winger and Dokken for the first time handles vocal duties and reveals to be an excellent singer as well ! Vocal harmonies and swirling guitars make “Ghost” a perfect single of a mature hard rock album.

16. STRAMONIO “Appointment With Life” (5.02)

This progressive Metal band gathered amazing reviews from the specialized press and has a small but very faithful amount of fans that count them as the real alternative to the masters Dream Theater… check them out on this superb song !

1. JEFF SCOTT SOTO “Eyes of Love” (4.29)

A superb opener for the new album from one of the most talented and gifted singer and performers of the hard rock world ! “Prism” is nothing else than ear candy for all melodic rock fans and this track shines for its energy, having lead guitars all over, with the verse typical Soto - solid and instantly hummable, surrounded by layered harmony vocals. The album also includes video interactive tracks and features a superb duet with the “Voice of Rock” Glenn Hughes on “I Want To take You Higher” !

3. Daniele Liverani – GENIUS “There’s A Human” (4.35)

One of the most exciting releases in the whole international hard rock / metal scene for the end of 2002 ! This rock opera features the likes of John Wetton, Steve Walsh, Mark Boals, Lana Lane, Daniel Gildenlow, Chris Boltendahl, Oliver Hartmann, Midnight, Joe Vana. The music and the concept was written by the Italian musician Daniele Liverani and the result in nothing else than one of the greatest pieces of music ever recorded in hard rock history ! This song features Oliver Hartmann of At Vance on vocals and is a straight ahead metallic anthem !

4. ROBERT FLEISCHMAN “The Crush” (4.31)

After 23 years, the ex singer of Journey, Vinnie Vincent’s Invasion and Channel comes back with a brand new solo album in classic melodic hard rock style ! The song on offer was written by Robert with Josh Ramos (Two Fires, Hardline) an is classic, straight ahead melodic rock of the highest calibre !

5. MARK BOALS “Fly” (6.27)

This track shows clearly the different direction of the new Mark Boals solo efforts, more rooted in melodic hard rock with progressive, (some) neo-classical and classic rock influences. Backed by an all star band including Vinny Appice (Sabbath), Erik Norlander (Lana Lane) on keyboards and Tony McAlpine on guitar, this album is easily the most interesting Boals’ release to date !

6. UNRULY CHILD “King Of Tragedy” (5.44)

Known for their superb debut album which featured the immense talent of Mark Free on vocals, Bruce Gowdy and Guy Allison come back with the help of Philip Bardowell (Magdalen) producing a surprisingly mature and convincing third chapter for the Unruly Child adventure. It is also a track that feels like a cross between the old Unruly Child and World with Phillip sounding at times like Mark Free and the music with slight progressive touches. A true epic!

6. URBAN TALE “Starship Of Giants” (3.40)

Acclaimed during in 2001 as one of the major revelations in the underground world of melodic rock after the release of the self titled debut album, the Finnish hope Urban Tale returns with this Journey-esque straight ahead rocker which will wet the appetites of all the AOR die hard fans !

7. ON THE RISE “Beat Of Your Heart” (3.42)

This duo is going to be THE newcomer in melodic rock in 2003 ! Hailing from Bergen, Norway, those guys Terje Ejde and Bennech Lyngboe are probably the most convincing European answer to Nelson with touches of Toto and Boston. Check them out, as they are born to rule the airwaves !

8. DRIVE, SHE SAID “What’s It Gonna Take” (4.24)

Taken from the forthcoming album “Real Life”
Originally written for The Sign record, this songs was so typically Drive, She Said that was decided to shelve it for the upcoming return of the Mark Mangold/Al Fritsch duo. Memorable melodies, hooklines and multilayered keyboards make this song a real classic for a superb return !

9. TALISMAN “Outta My Way” (4.00)

A classic Talisman rocker which marks the long awaited return of the “Humanimal” (the album) lineup for the US/Swedish alliance, featuring everyone taking solos on Soto’s verses, just like the old days! In Soto’s words…”This song is about, well basically - don't f**k with me!”.

10. KHYMERA (featuring Steve Walsh) “Who’s Gonna Love You Tonight” (rough mix) (3.46)

Finished version will appear on the forthcoming album “Khymera”
A David Foster penned song which in superbly interpreted by the Kansas singer Steve Walsh who in the upcoming Khymera project (recorded with the Daniele Liverani/Dario Ciccioni duo, the same responsible of the Genius rock opera) showcases his taste for melodic rock and hard rock. The crisp production from Mike Slamer (Streets, Steelhouse Lane, Seventh Key) makes the rest !

11. AMBITION “Waiting In My Dreams” (rough mix) (5.26)

This studio project marks the return of one of the best rock vocalists ever: Thom Griffin who gained his cult-hero fame replacing Fergie Fredriksen in Trillion on the second album “Clear Approach”. With Joe Vana of Mecca producing and contributions from Pat Leonard (Trillion, Toy Matinee, Madonna), Bruce Gaitsch and Steve Farris, this album is going to stun the melodic rock fan base !

The new monicker built up around the name of Josh Ramos ex The Storm/Two Fires, now full time lead guitarist in Hardline. With the help of the former vocalist of Eyes, Mark Weitz, Ramos hit the mark with a beautiful ballad that proves all the huge talent of this great musician !

13. GREEN “I Still Love…” (4.01)

Hailing from Tuscany, in the heart of Italy, Green’s debut album is going to take many by surprise. The guys are all seasoned and well known session players of the Italian pop and rock scene and have built up a concept album based on everyday life of a fantasy character called Mr. Kite. Their sound is a mixture of styles crossing the borders of progressive and melodic hard rock. Definitely a band to check out !

14. MYSTERELL “Don’t Ever Stop” (rough mix) (3.07)

A Def Leppard secret recording? A Giant unreleased track? No! Behind this “mysterious” name we have some familiar face: Torben L., who gained acclaim fronting the Danish trio Pangea who scored great media and fans attention attending two GODS shows in England. The new solo project that he’s preparing sees his music lending towards a more melodic approach with lots of emphasis on vocals and obviously with his eccentric guitar playing ! Check them out !

15. CRUSH 40 “Into The Wind” (4.28)

Known as Sons Of Angels in the land of the Rising Sun, the union between Johnny Gioeli (singer of Hardline and Axel Rudi Pell) and guitarist Jun Senoue (Loudness) lands finally on the European soil with its straight ahead melodic rock’n’roll written originally as soundtrack of the Sega car racing videogames!

16. MICHAEL SEMBELLO'S HEAVY WEATHER “Love Doesn’t Live Here Anymore” (demo) (4.40)

Behind this new name we have once again some familiar face, that is to say the former Alias singer Freddy Curci who has joined forces with former Coney Hatch drummer Paul Marangoni and guitar player Joey Scoleri. Zion is a new melodic rock force to be reckoned with and definitely a return to form for Freddy, offering his best work since the Alias days.
